It’s City Fox’s first time in the country and he’s super-duper hungry!

“Who’s for dinner?” he growls, licking his lips.

Scared out of their wits, the farm animals come up with a wild and crazy plan to fool him. But can they outfox that City Fox?

Teaching Ideas and Resources:

Write about City Fox’s journey to the countryside. What did he need to pack? What did he see on the bus? Who else was travelling?
Retell the story from the Fox’s point of view.
Make a persuasive poster to advertise countryside holidays to city animals.
Write the animals’ speech from the meeting that they had after City Fox arrived. What did they discuss? How did they plan to deal with the situation?
Create one of the pages from Fox’s animal book.
Create a new page for the story in which another animal pretends to be something different so that Fox doesn’t eat them.
Think of some speech / thought bubbles for the animals in each illustration.
Make a list of the verbs used in the story. Which verbs are used for which animals?

Create a timetable showing the activities that the animals did each day before City Fox arrived.

Create some puppets for each of the animals. Could you use these to retell the story? Could you perform it to an audience or create a film?

Look at the sketches on the inside covers. Can you create some sketches / illustrations of animals showing different emotions?
