If you’re teaching a classroom topic about ‘camping’ or planning some camping trips with children, there are a number of free resources available for download below. Three sheets showing different camping equipment can be downloaded and they could be used in the classroom in a variety of ways:
- Use the poster (with labels) as part of a classroom display.
- Give children a copy of the sheet with blank labels and ask pupils to identify the items.
- Show one of the posters on a large display (e.g. interactive whiteboard) and discuss what each item is. How is it used? Why is it needed? How does it work?
- Can the children think of any other equipment that might be needed?
- Look in a catalogue / online store and find some prices for each item. Use these to make some word problems or plan the total cost of a camping trip.
- Plan a trip for a group of people. How many of each item will you need?
- Make some persuasive posters to advertise some of these items.
- Draw pictures / write descriptions / record prices of each item on the Camping Checklist sheet.
- Cut out the camping equipment labels and ask the children to match the picture with the correct words.
- Sort the camping equipment labels into different groups. Which ones help us to keep warm / dry? Which ones help us to find our way? Which ones are used with food / drink?
