When everyone has left the house in the morning, the bath toys spring into action and head off on exciting adventures in their magical flying bath! From giving a muddy piglet a shower to putting out a fire for a frightened baboon, they have water at the ready for any emergency – but they’re always home for the children’s bathtime at the end of the day.

Teaching Ideas and Resources:


  • Rewrite the story in the form of a play script.
  • Choose a page and rewrite the story in sentences using speech marks.
  • Make a poster to advertise the services of the bath toys and their flying bath.
  • Make a new page (or group of pages) for the story in which another animal needs help from the bath toys.
  • Make a set of instructions to teach people how to look after the fish that are discovered in the bath at the end of the story.
  • Write a recount from the point of view of one of the bath toys about their adventure.
  • Watch this video to promote the book. Could you make a better one?


  • Find out about the capacity of a bath. Compare this with other containers and sort them in order of capacity.


  • Choose one of the animals featured in the story and find out more about it. Where does it live? What does it eat? Could you write a report about it?

Design Technology

  • Design a new vehicle that can transport water over large distances.


  • Choose a page (or a group of pages) and compose a tune to accompany the rhymes in the story.


  • Find out about the water cycle. Could you make a poster / labelled diagram to show what you have discovered?
  • Make a list of the different ways that we use water.
  • Make a poster to teach people about how to save water.
  • Look on a map and find some of the places that the bath might have travelled to. Show the journey that the bathtub made.


  • Find out about a charity that gives people around the world access to clean water. What do they do? How could you support their work?
