Full of foolproof tips, written by the Big Bad Wolf himself, this book is an essential guide for anyone looking to nab a rabbit. But make sure you keep an eye out for bears, springs with too much hop, and, of course, your own traps…
English:
- Write a similar set of instructions based on other fairy tales, e.g. How to Nab Red Riding Hood, How to Nab the Three Little Pigs.
- Choose another fairy tale character and imagine they wrote a book about their favourite topic. What might it be about?
- Discuss the features of instructions. What do they need to include? How are they presented?
- Retell the story from the rabbit’s point of view, i.e. How to Avoid the Big Bad Wolf.
- Retell the story from the bear’s point of view.
- Think of some speech / thought bubbles for the rabbit and bear throughout the story.
- Look at the different types of punctuation in the story. Can you find an apostrophe, an exclamation mark or an ellipsis? Why have these been used?
- Plan a new page for the story in which the Big Bad Wolf tries a new strategy to catch the rabbit.
- Make a list of all of the rhyming words in the book.
- Write a recipe for the Big Bad Wolf’s cookbook.
- Write the wolf’s diary entry for the day he tried to catch the rabbit. Explain how he felt when he tried different tricks.
- Write an alternative ending to this story. What might happen if the wolf did catch the rabbit?
Science:
- Find out more about wolves (or rabbits). Create a written / audio / multimedia report that shows what you have found out.

- Research the life cycles of wolves and rabbits.
Computing:

Design Technology:
- Look at the blueprint-style illustrations on the inside front covers. What are blueprints? When do people use them? Could you make some of your own?
- How are the blueprints at the front of the book different from those at the back?
- Design a new ‘lair’ that would protect the rabbit from the Big Bad Wolf.
- Design a machine that could help the Big Bad Wolf catch the rabbit.
Art:
- Create your own illustrations of rabbits, wolves or bears.
- Design a new outfit for the Big Bad Wolf to wear.
Music:
- Compose a melody to accompany an animated version of this story.
Geography:
