When Horace bakes a biscuit in the shape of a bear, little does he know that his edible treat is going to turn into Biscuit Bear! For in the middle of the night, when all is quiet, that is exactly what happens, and Biscuit Bear decides that it is time he made some friends of his own. So, with flour, sugar and butter he does just that. In fact, he makes a whole circus of friends and the fun begins…

- Retell the story from Horace’s point of view.
- Retell the story from Biscuit Bear’s point of view.
- Think of some speech / thought bubbles to add to the illustrations.
- Make a persuasive poster to advertise the most delicious biscuits in the world.
- Write a story about a biscuit that has a life of its own.
- At the start of the story, Horace is desperate to eat the biscuit bear. Write a persuasive letter to his mum asking her to allow him to eat the biscuit.
- Retell the story in the form of a playscript. Make some puppets and use these to perform the story to an audience.
- Some of the illustrations show the reader how to brush their teeth. Can you create a set of instructions to teach others how to brush their teeth correctly?
- Write a new story about the adventures of a group of biscuit bears.
- Make a poster to advertise Biscuit Bear’s amazing circus.

- Find out the prices of different types of biscuits. Use these for your own statistics / data handling activities or to create some word problems.
- Make a timeline showing the main events of the story and the approximate times that they might have taken place.

- Investigate reversible and irreversible changes. Is the process of cooking biscuits reversible or irreversible? Why?
- What ingredients are used to make biscuits? Where does each ingredient come from?
- At one point in the story, a shadow looms in the doorway. How are shadows formed?
