Re Gifted

A pink decorative egg keeps getting regifted. Will anyone ever appreciate it?

Watch this short animation and then try some of the teaching and activity ideas below.

English:

• Make a collection of words with the prefix re-.
• Invent a new name for the film.
• Write the story from the egg’s point of view.
• Write an advertisement for the egg.
• Create some dialogue between the people in the film. For example, at 0:27, Norma says, “You shouldn’t have” to the man who gave her the egg. What else could they have said to each other?
• At 0:38, Jane says, “It’s so gaudy”; what does gaudy mean? Make a list of synonyms for gaudy.
• Generate a list of adjectives to describe the other items in the thrift store (from 1:08 to 1:15). Could any of these adjectives describe the egg?
• Discuss why the roundabout inside the egg is not revealed until the end. What is the meaning of the story?
• Write a different ending for the film.
• Compare the egg’s facial expressions at 0:16 and 0:18. How would you describe them?
• Write a description of the final scene of the film.

Design Technology:

• Design a box to show off and protect the egg.

• Look at some Fabergé eggs. Could you design your own?
• Design and make an object with something hidden inside.

• Compose a new soundtrack for the film.
