A set of 18 ‘feelings cards’ are available for download (see below) that show pictures of a boy’s face and a word that describes how he is feeling. There are a number of ways that this resource could be used in the classroom:

  • Cut out all of the photos and words, jumble them up and ask the children to match them together again.
  • Cut out the photos, discard the words and think of new words that describe how the boy is feeling in each picture.
  • Ask children to choose a photo / feeling and describe a time when they have felt like that.
  • Make a list of things that make us feel like one of the emotions shown on the cards.
  • Cut out the cards and put them in order from the happiest to the most unhappy.
  • Choose a card and think of other words that mean the same as the feeling shown.
  • Describe what is happening to the boy’s face that helps us to identify how he is feeling. Can the children try to recreate the facial expression to show the same emotion?
  • Try to draw some of these facial expressions and show different emotions.
