English:

• Download our Saint David Pack for a guide and lots of classroom resources about the patron saint of Wales.

• Our free Wales Fact Cards are perfect for use as a reading resource.
• Read some Welsh myths and folklore, then retell one of them in your own words.
• Write a play based on the legend of the Red Dragon.
• Create a classroom collection of books by Welsh authors and poets such as Roald Dahl and Dylan Thomas; this site has a good list to help you.
• Take a virtual tour of a location in Wales, such as Cardiff Castle, and write a report about it.
• Create a fact file about Wales. This page from the British Council is a good place to start your research.
• Design a leaflet promoting holidays in Wales, including things to do in the country.

Maths:

• Did you know that the equals sign was invented by the Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde? Create some equations that use the equals sign, using this as a model: 15=3×5=10+5=30 ÷2
• Plot the heights of Wales’ highest mountains on a graph.
• Calculate the distance between Welsh cities using an atlas or online maps.
• Learn the number names in Welsh.
• Create symmetrical images, such as daffodils or dragons, on paper or using a digital app like this one.

Science:

• Investigate the habitats and natural histories of Welsh red kites. This page from the RSPB has lots of information.
• Create a presentation about native Welsh wildflowers.
• Use these resources from the BBC to learn about predators that live in the sea around Wales.
• Create a diagram showing the life cycle of the daffodil.
• Download this fantastic STEM resource about Welsh castles and try some of the activities.

Computing:

• Create a presentation about a famous person from Wales, such as Gareth Bale, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson or Owain Glyndŵr, using a program or app.
• Build or visit a Welsh castle in Minecraft.
• Create a quiz about Wales using presentation software or an online tool.

Design Technology:

• Cook a traditional Welsh treat like Welsh cakes.
• Construct a model of Castell Coch or another Welsh castle using recycled materials.
• Use one of these techniques to create a pop-up castle.
• Learn about Welsh traditional dress and explain its history.
• Design a product that incorporates a Welsh Celtic knot design.
• Create a model bridge inspired by Welsh architecture, such as the Severn Bridge or the Newport Transporter Bridge.

Art:

• Learn about famous Welsh artists. This page is a good place to start.

• Craft miniature versions of the Welsh dragon using clay or salt dough.

Geography:

• Using a map of Wales and Google maps, mark the different types of coastline found in Wales. This page is a useful resource.
• Make a presentation about rivers in Wales.
• Compare an urban area of Wales, like Cardiff, with a rural one. What similarities and differences are there?
• Watch this BBC clip about how the temperature changes as you climb a mountain, and check out the weather forecast for Eyri (Snowdonia).
• Plan a walk around the Coast Path using this interactive map.
• Make a book, presentation or video that shares facts about Wales. Here is an example:

History:

• Visit the Cadw website for lots of free educational resources.
• Research and present a the timeline of Welsh historical events. Download a great example from here.
• Create a scrapbook on the life of St David and his teachings.
• Learn about the history of Welsh castles and their importance.
• Explore this fantastic Google Arts and Culture exhibit about the castles of Wales.
• Make a virtual visit to Big Pit and learn about the history of coal mining in Wales.
• Use this resource to learn about the heroes and heroines of Wales.
• The National Library of Wale has lots of downloadable resources.

Physical Education:

• Play Tag Rugby. This video gives an overview of the game:

• Include traditional Welsh dance in a PE lesson.
• Plan a scavenger hunt with clues related to Welsh history or geography.

Religious Education:

• Find out about Saint David using our pack, or download our free resources.
• Listen to or learn some Welsh hymns.
• Mark Welsh pilgrimage trails and sites on Google Maps.

Languages:

• Learn some Welsh words, such as the days of the week, numbers and greetings. This site has lots of resources to download.

• Discuss the symbols of Wales, such as the daffodil and the dragon. Why are they important to Welsh people? What symbols are important to you?
