This is a simple game which requires good describing skills. Children should be organised into teams (with approximately three children per team).
One child from each team should be given a card. They should then try to describe what is on the card, but they are not allowed to use the words which are written on the card.
For example, if a child called Kate is given a card with a picture of a pig and the words ‘pig’, ‘farm’, ‘oink’ and ‘snout’, Kate has to try to get the other members of the class (her own teammates are not allowed to join in) to say the word ‘pig’. She is not allowed to say the words on her card, so she must think of other ways of describing a pig. The team which says “pig” first gets one point for their team.
A child from another team is then given a card and has to describe the object on that card. Play can continue for as long as you like (as long as each team has an equal number of chances to describe the object). At the end, the points can then be added up to give a winning team.
The cards are available to download below. Additional cards (without pictures) are also available.
