Monkey Day is an annual celebration of all things simian. Those taking part in the day’s events are encouraged to dress in monkey costumes, talk like a monkey all day long, send some monkey greeting cards, draw a monkey comic or maybe even give to their favourite monkey charity.

Here are some suggested teaching ideas:

  • Find out about monkeys and write a report about them. Where do they live? What do they eat?
  • Can you find out if there are any monkeys living in nearby zoos / wildlife parks? Plan a fundraising event to help support / adopt them.
  • Could you write a story about a monkey or read one of the many books about monkeys?
  • Make an acrostic poem based on the word ‘Monkeys’ (see Resources below).
  • Make some monkey masks.
  • Use modelling materials to make your own monkey model.
  • Look at photos of monkeys and use these as inspiration for your own artwork (see Resources below).
