Flowers Photo Resources

Many photo resources are available below, showing twenty different types of flowers. Use them in the classroom by trying some of the following ideas:

• Challenge children to use the photos as a starting point for their own drawings of flowers.
• Ask children to choose a card at random and then try to find information about that flower using research materials.
• Make a list of similarities and differences between the flowers.
• Think about the different parts of plants and flowers. What does each plant do?
• Think about where you might see each type of flower. What does it need to grow?
• Contact a local florist and think of some questions that you could ask them.
• Use a sorting diagram (e.g. Venn / Carroll diagrams) to sort the flowers into different groups.
• Challenge pupils to draw a new type of flower. What would they call it? How is it different from existing flowers?
• Print the photos and use them on a class display.
