When the younger children become restless, over-excited, or we have got our coats on and ready for home time too early, I challenge my class to the silence game. I tease them by saying that I do not think they can be quiet for very long at all.
I challenge them to be silent and not move for a whole minute. I hold up an egg timer, which helps the younger children appreciate the length of a minute. The children enjoy it because they want to prove me wrong.
Once they have got the hang of the game, I will ask individual questions, if they answer me, I say, ‘I won.’
The children are enthusiastic about the game and always ask me to try and trick them.
