One day, adventurous Mouse sets off to find the moon with his Marvellous Moon Map, leaving his worried friend Bear behind. But as the Woods get darker, and the weather gets worse, Mouse soon realises that he needs more than just the Moon Map to find his way…

English:

• Retell the story from Mouse’s (or Bear’s) point of view.
• Think of some words and phrases to describe Mouse’s personality. How might these differ from words and phrases that describe Bear?
• Write a news report about a Mouse who tried to travel to the Moon. Include some interview questions and answers with Mouse about his adventure.
• Imagine that Mouse went on the journey alone. Write postcards from him to Bear describing his adventures.
• Write a similar story about an animal who tries to reach somewhere special using a homemade map. How could a friend help them to reach their goal?
• Continue the story to describe the animals’ journey home.
• Write a new adventure for Mouse and Bear. Could you write a prequel that explains how they met?
• Watch this read-aloud video that tells the story:

Science:

• Research the topic of the moon and write a report about it.
• Bear’s boat floats on the surface of the water. Can you investigate materials that float and sink?

Computing:

• Could you make a video showing how to follow the paper boat instructions at the back of the book?
• Make a game in which Mouse has to travel through the big, black Woods to reach the Moon.

Design Technology:

• Design and make a new boat to help Mouse and Bear reach the Moon.

Art:

• Follow the instructions in the book to make your own paper boat.
• Think of some other objects that can be made from paper (e.g. a hat or a plane). Can you try to make some of them?
• Create your own illustrations of mice and bears.
• In the following video, the author reads the story, and the illustrator draws Bear. Can you follow along and draw a picture, too?

Geography:

• Mouse makes a map to help him find the Moon. Make your own map to help you travel to a new place. Add lots of points of interest to discover along the way.

History:

• Make a timeline that shows the history of space travel, including missions to the Moon.

Physical Education:

• Could you create an obstacle course that can be traversed in order to reach a goal?

PSHE:

• Mouse is determined to find the Moon on his own. Think of a time when you have been determined to do something.
• Think of some activities that can only be completed by working with others. How does working as a team help us to achieve better outcomes?
• Bear says to Mouse, “I’ve got you , and you’ve got me – so we’ll be all right” several times. Think of a person (or a group of people) who help you when you need it.
