Australia Day is Australia’s official national day. It is celebrated annually on 26 January. The date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland at that time.

Try some of these activities and use our resources to learn about Australia on this special day or any time of year!

• Find Australia on a map. How far is it away from where you live? How could you travel there? How long might it take?
• Plan an interview with somebody who lives in Australia.
• Find out how Australia is similar / different to where you live.
• Plan a holiday to Australia. Which famous landmarks would you like to visit?
• Plan and make a tourist guide to Australia (on paper or using audio / video).
