Using a Thesaurus

Age Range: 7 - 11
By: C.H. Lynch

After teaching synonyms to my students, I introduce the Thesaurus. I use the following worksheet to help them use the Thesaurus to find synonyms. When they have found a suitable synonym, they should write it in the appropriate blank space.

The worksheet can be downloaded below.

I loved this - thanks for sharing! I am a pre-service teacher, about to teach my first actual lesson to a group of kids as part of my training.I created a powerpoint presentation to support this worksheet, and as I was also teachig Antonyms and Homonyms I changed the worksheet to include boxed opposites and bolded homonym choices. The end of the powerpoint session provides the opportunity for students to insert their synonyms etc. onto the projection screen version of the worksheet .I will let you know how it all goes!
