Australia Resources

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. It is celebrated annually on 26 January. The date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.

Try some of these activities and use our resources are part of learning about Australia on the special day or at any time of year!

  • Find Australia on a map. How far is it away from where you live? How could you travel there? How long might it take?
  • Plan an interview with somebody who lives in Australia.
  • Find out how Australia is similar / different to where you live.
  • Plan a holiday to Australia. Which famous landmarks would you like to visit?
  • Plan and make a tourist guide to Australia (on paper, or using audio / video).
  • Colour the Australian flag templates.
  • Find out about the different animals that live in Australia.
  • Use the fact cards for display or for research. Could your pupils make some of their own fact cards about the country.
  • Plan a trip to Australia. What would you take with you? How would you travel? What route would you take and how long would it take to get there?
