Life Cycle of a Butterfly Resources

We have made a number of free printable teaching resources that can be used to help your children learn about the stages in a butterfly's life cycle. You can use them in a variety of ways:

  • Print the banner / poster / photos and add them to your classroom displays.
  • Ask children to look at the stages on the resources and write a description of the changes between each of them.
  • Print the activity page and ask pupils to name each of the stages in the correct box.
  • Jumble up the photo cards and ask your children to put them into the correct order.
  • Stick the photo cards in books and ask children to write a description of what is happening at each stage.
  • Let children refer to the poster and ask them to draw their own labelled diagram of the life cycle of a butterfly.
  • Write a story about a butterfly as it goes through each of the stages in its life cycle.
  • Challenge your children to write a diary entry from the point of view of a butterfly at the different stages in its life.
