Show, Don’t Tell

Are you looking for ways to help your children bring characters to life in their writing?

Use this free template as part of your character description work. It encourages children to move beyond simply telling the reader what a character is like and instead to show it through actions, dialogue, and detail.

For example:

• Telling: Ella was brave and determined.
• Showing: Ella tightened her grip on the sword, her knees trembling, but her chin lifted, and she stepped into the cave before anyone else moved.
