Mapping the Locations

Contributed by:

Age Range: 7 to 11

The landscapes and locations in the Myst games are all incredibly detailed. They are extremely useful from a teaching point of view as they can lead to a wide range of learning opportunities. One of these might include mapwork.

As you explore, pupils could sketch a map to show the places you visit. They could add important landmarks (rooms / buildings / puzzles / creatures) and use symbols / keys to make these clear.

The Game Chronicles site has a walkthrough of Myst III which also features maps of the different Ages in the games. Could your pupils make something similar? Any maps they make could then be referred to as you continue to explore the game and solve puzzles in later lessons. You could also use maps of the locations in your class displays.

You can also download an outline map of J'nanin PDF Document which could be used by pupils as you explore the area in Myst III.
