Myst

The Myst series of computer games can be extremely valuable teaching tools. The characters, landscapes and storylines used in the game can all be used to enhance learning in a wide range of curriculum areas.

Below, you will find a considerable number of ideas and resources to help you use the Myst games as part of your teaching. There are lots of ways of using Myst in the classroom, so please get in touch if you have some more ideas / resources of your own. Thank you!

  • Myst IV Creatures Smart Notebook file - A SMART Notebook slide showing some of the creatures in Myst IV. This could be used as a prompt for creating your own creatures or for writing reports about the ones shown.
  • Use the Journals - The journals in the Myst games offer lots of wonderful learning opportunities. Try some of these.
  • Journal Comprehension PDF Document - A set of questions based on the different journals in Myst IV.
  • Spire Senses PDF Document - A sheet which children can use as a prompt to record vocabulary linked to their senses, as they explore Spire in Myst IV.
  • Improve the Text (Myst 4) PDF Document - A set of sentences based upon the exploration of Tomahna in Myst IV. Can your pupils improve them by changing / adding vocabulary and punctuation?
  • Add the Punctuation PDF Document - Two differentiated texts, describing Tomahna in Myst IV, requiring pupils to add the missing punctuation.
  • Write Instructions - Use the Myst walkthroughs as a starting point for work on instruction writing.
  • Improving Instructions PDF Document - Ask your children to improve this basic set of instructions (which solve a puzzle in Haven in Myst IV) by adding connectives, changing the text and adding pictures.
