Don't Shout!
Subject: Science
(This idea was contributed by Lisa Battaglia)
Age Range: 5 to 11

I teach preschool children, and sometimes you have to raise your voice to get their attention. I also sing at church and this was really hurting my voice.

So I decided to give them a lesson on how our voices work. We have a life size picture of the human anatomy in our class (under $10 at supply stores). I showed them all the different things that we use to speak. I then had them find ther larnyx, push on it gently, and speak. I had them hold their tongues and try to talk.

That was about 2 months ago and I have not raised my voice since!
