Storyboards
Age Range: 5 to 11
Storyboards can be used in any subject - not just Religious Education. However, R.E. offers a number of opportunities to use them. For example, they can be used to re-tell famous religious stories (e.g. the Easter story, Christmas story), or the children can use them to make up their own stories and parables.
There are two A4-sized storyboard worksheets which you can print and photocopy:
- The first one is suitable for younger children, as it has six pictures boxes to fill in (with small text boxes underneath if your children are able to fill them).
- The second worksheet has twelve boxes, which older children can fill in.

On each storyboard, there are two main rows. Each row is split up further into two smaller rows. In each main row, the top larger row should be used to draw pictures in, while the smaller second row below should contain text relating to the picture above...
By reading the storyboard from left to right, each picture (along with the accompanying text) can be used to tell the reader about almost anything. They could also be used for instructions (for more instruction ideas, see this page).
Remember, that although these worksheets are quite useful, some children may find them restrictive. If they want to, you might let them to make their own storyboard sheets with any number of boxes on.
