Time-Fillers Literacy and Maths

Literacy (incl. Speaking and Listening) Games:
  • What am I? - Children ask each other questions to work out the object chosen for them.
  • Barrier Games Smart Notebook File - Print a copy of one of these Smart Notebook slides, and ask a child to describe it. Can the others draw what is being described? Great for speaking and listening, and developing vocabulary.
  • Describing Pictures - A very fun activity which increases describing (and listening) skills.
  • Word Master - Improve vocabulary skills with this simple competitive game.
  • Guess the Celeb - A fun game in which children have to guess the name of a famous person.
  • Guess the Celeb 2 - A whole class game, where the class has to guess the person who is being described.
  • Animal Alphabet - A simple activity which can be used for fun, or to extend children's vocabulary.
  • The Magic Pen - Useful time-filler activity in which the class creates a story together. Good for developing Speaking and Listening skills.
  • Good Afternoon Your Majesty - A fun guessing game which requires good listening skills, and lots of silly voices!
  • Chinese Whispers - A classic game which is great fun to play in the classroom.
  • Team X - Are your children brave enough to play this wonderful listening game?
  • TOAS - Think of a Sentence - A fun filler involving the creation of strange sentences based upon a given set of letters.
  • Tic Tac Toe Game - A simple game which can be used to teach almost any topic.
  • Recognising sounds - A quick game to encourage children to recognise the sounds used at the start of words.
  • Animal Endings - Can you think of an animal which begins with a specific letter? This game is great for building vocabulary, and can be used with lots of topics.
  • What's the Object? - An exciting describing game, which can be played in teams. All necessary resources are included and available for printing.
  • Which Pupil? - Can your children guess which pupil has been chosen using clues based on their initials?
  • Harry Potter Wordsearch Word Document - A wordsearch, based on the Harry Potter books. Contributed by Lisl Rijswijk.

  • Times Table Contest - An exciting activity which reinforces the children's knowledge of their multiplication tables.
  • Times Table Buzz - An exciting activity which reinforces the children's knowledge of their multiplication tables.
  • Bingo - Play Bingo in your classroom (the educational version).
