Autumn Leaves
Topic: Seasonal Ideas
(This idea was contributed by a visitor)
Age Range: 5 to 11

This project requires black A3 size paper, cut out shapes of leaves, and various Autumn / Fall colours of chalk.

The students carefully trace on the top edge of the cut out leaf shapes with coloured chalk. Then they carefully place the leaf onto a clean piece of black paper. The student gently rubs the chalk off the leaf and onto the black paper in one direction.

Remind them not to get chalky fingerprints onto the black paper. The results look like sparkly star bursts in leaf shapes. Let them experiment with overlapping, trying several colours on one leaf, and using a variety of leaf shapes.

This will work effectively for star and planet shapes as well.
