Today's Timetable

Contributed by:
Kirsty Davies
Age Range: 5 to 11

I covered a maternity leave within a reception class in which one of the children is autistic. He had a computer programme called Boardmaker, which produced pictures of actions/objects for him to show the teaching staff when he wanted to do/tell something.

In my class I have used this package, (although I suppose you could do the same sort of thing with clip art) to produce a visual timetable of each lesson/activity for each day.

I laminated these and display them running down the side of my whiteboard, and take each one off after the lesson/activity is finished. I also include playtimes/assembly time/register as well as Literacy and Numeracy etc.

This really helps some of the children to judge what they have/haven't done throughout the day and also reminds the children exactly what we will be doing all day which saves them asking me over and over again!
