Smiley Self Evaluation

Contributed by:
A Visitor
Age Range: 5 to 11

To get younger children involved in evaluating their work and understanding, I use a smiley face system that each child does on their work at the end of session...

  • A smiley face for 'I completely understood what I had to do and I think I have worked very well'.
  • A face with a straight smile means 'I have tried my best but I not sure I completely understood'.
  • A face with a sad face means 'Help, I didn't understand at all!'

There's no writing involved for the children so it is quick and easy and allows those who are shy or don't want to speak out to recieve help. My children now do this automatically.
