Sitting Nicely
Topic: Classroom Management
(This idea was contributed by Liz Sutherland)
Age Range: 5 to 11

This is a way of getting children back to their table from the carpet in calm and focused way. They love it and clamour for it each time! It can be used when giving out worksheets etc.

Say you are going to choose one person who is doing 'good sitting' to go and sit down.

When you have chosen someone that child then chooses another who DESERVES it (i.e. is doing 'good sitting') and so on.

Alternate boy/girl otherwise you end up with girls/boys only sitting on the carpet.

It's also important to stop when the group gets down to five or six so that no one feels they have been chosen last.
