The Silence Game
Topic: Classroom Management
(This idea was contributed by Michelle Jobling)
Age Range: 5 to 11

When the younger children become restless, over excited or we have got our coats on ready for home time too early, I challenge my class to the silence game. I tease them by saying that I do not think they can be quiet for very long at all.

I challenge them to be silent and not move for a whole minute. I hold up an egg timer, which helps the younger children appreciate the length of a minute. The children enjoy it because they want to prove me wrong.

Once they have got the hang of the game. I will ask individual questions, if they answer me I say 'I won.'

The children are enthusiastic about the game and always ask me to try and trick them.
