We cover our texts to help make them last, but then they look plain. As an on-going project, I make Stickers (using dollar store style "Avery" labels that are specially made for the topic or lesson of the day.

Sometimes there are quotes, sometimes famous people sometimes other memorable images / vocabulary. Students love the stickers and their book cover becomes a "passport" to what they have learned.
