To save children misbehaving or wasting time in the toilet, I have a laminated 'toilet pass' . With the exception of real emergencies, the children show me the pass when they need to go. If I am busy, a nod suffices to say that they may go. The pass is stored in a prominent place in the classroom and any child wanting to go must wait, if they can, until it is returned before asking to go.
