Have 2 birthday cakes on the wall, each is marked with an age that the children will be during the year. Get each child to write their name on a candle.
When they have their birthday and have hit a new age, they move their own candle from one cake to the other. For example: Year 1. Have one cake marked 'I am 5' and the other marked 'I am 6'.
All the children begin with a candle on the first cake, but will end up by the end of the year on the other cake.
