Adopt an Animal
Topic: Classroom Management
(This idea was contributed by Tammy Martin)
Age Range: 5 to 11

This is a great way to positively reinforce childrens' behaviour in your class.

Have a stuffed toy (ie an elephant) and a 'diary' for that animal. Explain to your class that the animal is on holiday from another country (ie. Africa) and wants to see what it is like to live here. Whenever a child is well mannered or tries hard give him/her a sticker.

At the end of the week, the child with the most stickers can take the animal home. The child takes the animal and the diary and writes or draws whatever they have done together on the weekend.

On Monday the child can report back and show what has been done in the diary.

This is also a great way to encourage literacy in the early years.
