Leavers' Assembly Acrostics

I was stuck for a good start for my leavers assembly.

I made up an outline of each letter of the school name on large coloured card and asked the children in small groups to fill in the middle with different materials and effects etc. Then as a class we came up with an acrostic poem to match.

Then during the assembly we started with a few children holding a letter each and the whole class calling out the letters in turn. Then each child with a letter said their letter again and read the matching line of the poem, e.g. 'L is for literacy... we..' etc.

They enjoyed the art work and poem side of things too. It was a real personal touch.
