Reinforcing Routes
Subject: Maths
(This idea was contributed by a visitor)
Age Range: 5 to 11

Two ideas for reinforcing routes and direction:

1) Mine-field - make a large taped grid on the carpet - place drawn 'mines' in other squares - or any other obstacle that needs to be avoided, and a stuffed toy or other object to be rescued. The children take turns to direct each other on rescue missions. The scenarios can be varied for the age of the class or current topic.

2) Treasure map - children work in groups and chalk large-scale treasure maps in the playground. Then, children work in pairs (one can be blindfolded) to direct each other to the treasure.
