Even Steven
Subject: Maths
(This idea was contributed by Roger Rooke)
Age Range: 7 to 11

This is a game for 2/3 players called "EvenSteven". 5 dice are used. These could be conventional dice or one or two polyfaced dice with higher numbers on them.

Before throwing all 5 dice each player guesses whether the total will be ODD or EVEN (this could be written or a card could be chosen). After the dice are thrown, the total is found and if the player's guess was correct they score that total. If the guess was incorrect the score is halved.

After 3 rounds of throws the game ends and the scores are totalled to find a winner. This gives experience of addition and halving and introduces probability. Some pupils may need calculators to check half scores.
