This activity encourages children to learn their 10 times tables.
Fill 10 bags with 10 unifix cubes each. Ask a child to hold one bag. Record '1 bag, 10 cubes' (1x10).
Ask another child to hold another bag (2 x10). Repeat.
The children can physically see that there are 6 lots of 10 in 60 for example.
You can also link this to 6 'sets of' 10 and 10+10+10+10+10+10 for repeated addition.
I found the bags really useful.
