Paddington and the Grand Tour

With his suitcase packed full of marmalade sandwiches and Mrs Bird’s umbrella (in case it rains), Paddington sets out for a day of sightseeing with his friend, Mr Gruber. How can he know that the tourists will think he’s their tour guide? And how is he to guess that they will follow him everywhere?

  • Write a new story about an adventure that Paddington might have.
  • Retell the story from Paddington’s point of view.
  • Write a script for Paddington’s tour of London.
  • Write an online review of Paddington’s tour from the point of view of one of his guests.

  • Paddington wishes that he had brought his ‘disguise outfit’. Can you design one for him?
  • Design a new tour guide outfit for Paddington to wear.
  • Over the years, Paddington has been illustrated by a number of different people. Which style of illustration do you prefer? Why?

  • Plan a tour of your local area. Which places would your tour visit? What would you tell guests about each location? Can you plan the route for the bus?
  • Can you name the London landmarks shown in the book? What can you find out about each place?
  • Paddington comes from Peru. Can you find out more about this country?
  • Paddington jumbles up the words and pictures from his booklet. Could you find out some facts about London (or another place) and some related images? Then jumble them up and ask a friend to match them together correctly.

  • Create your own timeline of events from Paddington’s history. The official site has lots of examples that you could include.
