The Story of Narcissus

By Mark Warner
Age Range: 5 to 11

This activity is a spontaneous role-play based upon the story of Narcissus. A worksheet containing the story can be found here.

To carry out this activity, you will need five volunteers who will act out the story. Before the lesson, choose who these volunteers will be and give them their roles, from the following list:

Narcissus (boy), Echo (girl), Two friends (boys or girls) and Nemesis (girl)

Tell the volunteers that you are going to read a story, and while you are doing this, they should listen to the story, and act according to what is happening.

When you have read the story, the children can carry out a number of things to reinforce what they have seen and heard, e.g. retelling the story, writing the story down, making a storyboard (see here), or answering questions about it.
