SPaG Cards:
These cards feature the names of different terms related to spelling, punctuation and grammar, along with their definitions. They could be used in the classroom in a number of ways:

  • Cut and laminate them to use them again and again!
  • Add them to a class display for children to refer to throughout the day.
  • Ask children to use them to make a SPaG dictionary / glossary.
  • Shuffle the cards and turn them all over. Challenge children to use them to play 'Pairs' or race to find matching words and definitions as quickly as possible.
  • Use multiple sets of cards to challenge teams of children to match the names / definitions in the fastest time.
  • Ask children to sort them into groups (e.g. spelling terms, punctuation terms and grammar terms).
  • Shuffle the cards and choose a card at random at the start of each day. Can they remember the meaning at the end of the day? Could they use that word as part of their activities throughout the day?
  • Ask pupils to think of examples of each type of term.
  • Could your pupils use the blank SPaG card template to make their own cards with SPaG terms and their definitions?

SPaG Glossary:
A printable glossary of terms related to spelling, punctuation and grammar. Here are some ideas for using this in the classroom.

  • Print the two sheets of the glossary back to back, laminate it and let children use it as a reference tool during their lessons.
  • Shout out one of the terms and ask children to give the meaning as quickly as possible.
  • Give one of the meanings to the children and ask them to find the word that it relates to.

SPaG Follow Me Cards:
Share these 32 cards around your class. Ask one child to read the definition on their card. The child who has that definition then reads their word and also the definition on their card. This continues until all 32 words and definitions have been shared. If you complete it correctly, the game should end with the person who started it!
