This is a great idea for finding out what the children in your class have been up to in the holidays, without making them write a boring diary.
Tell the children you want them to write a list of eight things that they did during the school holidays.
After discussing the features of recipes, brainstorm the terminology and vocabulary used in a recipe, e.g 2 teaspoons of etc.
The class then title a piece of paper 'The Recipe To A Successful Summer'. The children then, using the vocabulary suggested, write a recipe of what they enjoyed doing that summer.
For example...
2 late nights,
1 cup of football,
3 tsp of friends,
1 ounce of long lies
Mix together with two large swims and bake in a hot oven for seven weeks.
This is a great way of getting to know a new class and they really enjoy it!
