Epigrams
Subject: Literacy
(This idea was contributed by Jayr Bello)
Age Range: 11 and over

Short,thought-provoking verses which are usually sarcastic are called epigrams. An epigram seeks to teach a moral or a truth.

To get the meaning of an epigram, do the following:
1.Look up the meanings of unfamiliar words.
2.Reflect on the things which some words and phrases represent.
3.Reflect on the relationship of these symbols with the realities of life.

Do you have any other ideas for exploring epigrams in the classroom? Add your suggestions to the comments area.
