Character Sequencing
Subject: Literacy
(This idea was contributed by Dot Hullah)
Age Range: 5 to 11

Cut out several A4 sized figures in card to be used as templates.

Next in card, cut out a large floppy hat, T-shirt, shorts or skirt, shoes.

The idea of the exercise is to write the beginning of the story in the hat, the middle of the story in the t-shirt and the end of the story on the skirt, with the final sentences on the shoes.

When complete the figures can be decorated and then fixed together. This activity illustrates the order which stories should be written.

Further extension to this idea would be to use the same figures but this time the children are asked to choose a character, i.e pirate, princess, astronaut etc. They dress the figure accordingly and then describe the character. Both these activities make super displays.
