Last year, I organized a "What Should I Be When I Grow Up" career night for elementary students. It's easy to do:
1) Send a letter to all parents surveying their careers,
2) Invite them down for a night to demonstrate their jobs in a hands on workshop.
3) Create a list of treasure hunt questions where the children go from table to table asking the mentors about their careers, trying a skill and picking up a clue.
From this event, a list of guest speakers were compiled for the next school year, the career curriculum was addressed, parents were involved and the children had fun! Prior to the event we organized poster contests and "What Should I be When I grow up?" essay contests. It was a fun filled night complete with karate demonstrations, tool demonstrations, bakery demos and the kids were definitely excited to see mum and dad impress their friends.
