It's called 4R (Run, Read, Remember and Re-tell).
All you need is :
- Short story with some missing information.
- The same short story with complete information. Cut it into 4 or 5 horizontal lines (ideally 2 or 3 sentences each). Tack them on different spots of the class: behind the teacher's chair, on the wall, etc.
- A cassette player
- A pop song.
- Children in groups of 3 or 4.
How to handle:
- Give every group the incomplete story.
- The groups have to elect 1 RUNNER, 1 WRITER and 1 or 2 STANDBYERS
- Teacher plays the music and tell students she will give the timing by playing 2 songs.
- The RUNNER searches for the missing info, read and remember every line, run back to his/her group, re-tell what she/he has read.
- The WRITER listens carefully, asks for spelling if necessary, and fill the gaps.
- The RUNNER sits down and gives the turn to a STANDBUYER.
- When the 2 songs finish, all groups submit the paper.
- Teacher then does the crosschecking.
- The group with the most correct answer wins.
