Magic Wand
Subject: Early Years
(This idea was contributed by a visitor)
Age Range: Early Years

This strategy can be used to ensure children are listening whilst on the carpet during activities like the Literacy Hour, but could only be used with small children.

I made a magic wand and told the children that I was good at casting magic spells. I then said that I had a new magic wand which I wanted to try out on them.

I told the children that when I said 'abracadabra' the spell would make them all sit up straight, be quiet and look at the board. I closed my eyes, said the magic words and 'hey presto' it worked!

The children had great fun and did not get bored of seeing if my magic powers had run out!!
