Newspaper Creations

Contributed by:
Sarah Coraggio
Age Range: 5 to 11

Objective: Students use their creativity and energy to build realistic looking structures or objects using only newspapers.

Materials: Two bundles (approx. 2 feet high) of newspapers, String, Tape, Paper clips

Procedure:

  • Teacher will divide the class into teams of three or four students each.
  • Tell the students they have a specific amount of time (at least 30 minutes) to build a realistic looking structure or object out of newspaper. Teacher should be able to tell by looking at it what it is the teams have built (i.e. bicycles, bathrooms, etc.).
  • At the end of the time period, the items are placed together and all students sit down.
  • Each group chooses one student to be on a judging committee with the teacher. They choose a winner and runner-up.

Assessment: Everyone gets an "A" for effort!
