Pumpkin Autobiographies
Subject: Art
(This idea was contributed by Christie Martin)
Age Range: 7 to 11

As part of my 4th grade curriculum, I have the children write an autobiography.

This writing assignment usually comes around Halloween. So, instead of having the children draw a picture to illustrate their story, I have them get a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and decorate it to go along with their story.

So if their story is about the first time they learned how to ride a bike, then the pumpkin may be wearing a helmet and have a little doll bicycle next to it. The kids love this activity!

(NOTE: Make sure they don't puncture the pumpkin with any of their decorations because this causes the pumpkin to rot a lot quicker).
