Picasso Portraits
Subject: Art
(This idea was contributed by a visitor)
Age Range: 7 to 11

This lesson works well with 8-11 year olds.

Study some pictures by Picassol, and discuss the term 'cubism' and what it means. Students then draw a portrait using grey lead pencil. Ask students to then draw random lines across the portait splitting it into many different sections. Ask students to then colour the portait using oil pastels, choosing diffrent colours for different sections -regarless of if this makes several different colours for the face hair etc.

Students will then have created a simplified cubist portrait.
