Name Designs

By Julie Gindy
Age Range: 5 to 11

Supplies needed:

  • Coloured paper, 1- ½ sheets (could be white) and 3 different colors of 8 ½ x 11 for each student
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue or Glue stick

Procedure:

Student will write name on ½ sheet of paper using a dark marker, printing or cursive. Tell the student that they use a line to write their name. (Line is a path of a point). Draw a contour line (contour line-a line around an object) around their name, leaving about a ½ inch between the name and the line drawn. Cut out name. Their name is now a Shape, (Shape is a 2 dimensional enclosed space, a line turns into a shape when the lines meet or intersect. Shapes can be geometric or free form).

Place name on next colour choice and draw a contour line around it leaving a ½ inch between the paper edge and the line drawn. Cut out. Do the same for the next 2 colours.

Glue shapes together with glue stick or glue. These can be used on desks for personalized name plates. This can be done with more than 3 colours, they look great large!!

Fabulous when laminated!!!!
