Monet Style Art
Subject: Art
(This idea was contributed by a visitor)
Age Range: 5 to 11

Show the students some Monet paintings. Using old wax crayons, the students draw a Monet Impressionist style picture - flowers and trees work best, on sand paper.

They must colour solidly for this to work well. With an adult's help the student puts an A3 size paper carefully over their wax crayon drawing and use a hot iron to iron over the back of the A3 paper, being careful not to move the paper off the sandpaper. Once the wax is thoroughly melted and transferred onto the A3 paper, remove the paper and let it dry and cool.

The students can try re-using the sandpaper to redo their picture if they failed to use enough wax crayon the first time.
